In Japan...they bet on this race. The Kierin is always a favorite to spectate.
The race is comprised of 6-8 riders who are motor paced as you see Bobby
Livingston doing here. Riders begin from a standing start with holders to keep
them upright. Start position is usually by lottery pick. Each lap, the motor
pace increases the speed. The riders are not allowed to pass the motor pace.
During this time, the riders jockey for position. Look out! There is often head
butting and shoulder bumping going on. Look close and you will see the
intensity that builds in this race. Once the motor pace pulls off the front, the
race truly begins. With 3 laps to go, mayhem ensues. The first rider across
the line is the winner.
