Track Clinic for Women

Women's Track Clinic

In 2009, Liz Reap Carlson who is a former Elite National  Champion and Master's World Champion, spent two exciting days hosting an introductory track clinic for women at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown PA.  Liz has an extensive race resume' that is quite impressive.  Liz has taken home championship titles in the Team Sprint, Match Sprint and 500 meter Time Trial races.  She is also a record holder in the Master's 500 meter Time Trial event.  Liz is a sprint specialist and has the results to back it up.  While Liz is an intense bike racer and gets down to business on the track, she is a free, fun-loving spirit off the bike.

On May 23, 2009 and September 13, 2009, Liz presented track clinics for women of all ages.  Liz shared her experitise about training, nutrition and track racing.  Both days the sun shone bright and a slew of women came out to attend the sessions.  Track bikes were provided by the velodrome in the event you did not have your own.

The day began with introductions, both personal and about track racing in general.  All of the women were fitted properly on their bikes and briefed on how to operate their steed.  Liz gave everyone the opportunity to get comfortable before getting up on the steep banks for some real action.

Liz walked (or should I say rode?) everyone through the each type of race discipline and gave the riders a chance to do some basic training, improve bike handling skills and try their hand at a little racing.  Everyone had the opportunity to get a taste of what racing on the track is truly like.  It is one thing to watch an event, but once your on the track, you can really get a sense of what the action is all about.

Liz did a fantastic job leading the riders through the rigors.  She took the time to answer questions and gave loads of encouragement to all.  In perfect Liz style, she sprinkled in her sense of humor and made everyone feel at home and comfortable.

Many of the women had never been on a track bike, let alone on the steep banks of the velodrome.  Initially, there was a nervousness in the air as the ladies mounted their bikes and took to the track for the first time.  Thanks to Liz's expertise, everyone was achieving a greater sense of control and comfort by the end of the day.

Both days were a huge success both in numbers and results.  Not only did Liz effectively coach these ladies through every step, she opened some new doors.  Since attending the clinics, several of the women have begun training on the track through the adult development program and many have also started racing.

As they say...Once you go track, you never go back!  If you want to find out more about Liz Reap Carlson or want to contact her, go to her website:
